CENTRAL SUSSEX GROUP

The Alpine Garden Society promotes the conservation and cultivation of alpine plants - all plants which are suitable for a scree, rock garden, frame or alpine house and includes small herbaceous plants, bulbs, ferns and dwarf conifers and shrubs..

The Society:

  • Publishes a quarterly Bulletin
  • Organises botanical and horticultural expeditions
  • Arranges tours (through its own AGS Expeditions Ltd) and visits
  • Organises conferences and shows in England,Wales and Ireland
  • Exhibits at major horticultural shows (many gold medals)
  • Has its own rock garden at Pershore where the Society is based
  • Offers advice to members
  • Has an annual seed distribution
  • Publishes its own titles and sells other relevant books
  • Promotes the formation of Local and Special Interest Groups - Androsaces, Fritillarias, History of rock and alpine gardening

    • The Central Sussex Group has the same interests as its parent Society and is the local group for the central Sussex area, its members coming from within a radius of 30 miles of Haywards Heath.

    The Group:

  • Holds meetings with illustrated talks on alpines and associated plants in their native habitats and on their cultivation.
  • The venue is in Haywards Heath at the Centenary Hall of St. Wilfrid's Church on Saturdays (usually the 3rd) each month from September to May.
  • It has an annual Local Show in Hassocks in March or April each year.
  • A Newsletter is published each month which gives an account of the previous month's talk which gives an account of the previous month's talk and adds other matters of interest.
  • Membership of the Society is £25 (£29 for any two people at the same address) and of the Local Group £7.50 per person
